About

Steve Pink Photography

I started working in photography in 1969, initially covering motor sport including the RAC Rally and British Grand Prix and was lucky enough to have my works published in several motor sport magazines.

In 1972, I was asked by friends to cover their weddings and christenings and this led to me undertaking professional assignments in this field, alongside my motor sport work. In addition, I also undertook portrait work.

I moved into commercial photography in the late seventies, firstly taking shots for insurance purposes and later undertaking travel photography, a subject that is still very close to my heart. My shots have been used in travel industry and included several shoots with P & O Cruises for both in-house usage and their brochures. This allowed me to film in exotic areas around the world and I was able to use my time to also shoot wild animals and birds in addition to ‘picture postcard’ shots.

Via the ‘insurance purposes’ route, I started taking photographs of antiques for catalogues and books on the subject and I still continue in this field.

All of my work prior to 2005 was shot on either 35mm using Nikon cameras or medium format using a Mamiya RB 67. Although I developed and printed a lot of work myself, the majority of film was hand processed in specialised laboratories.

Like most photographers, digital beckoned and although I still work in both 35mm and 6 x 7 formats, the majority of shots are now taken with Nikon digital SLR’s and Nikkor lenses.

I have often been asked ‘ What is your favourite subject?’. The answer is that I don’t really have one although the most challenging was possibly shooting dust mite faeces for a lecture by one of the world’s leading dermatologists on asthma and its causes. Not only are dust mites totally invisible to the naked eye, their faeces are so microscopic that I had to use a high powered microscope (borrowed from the university) coupled with specialist Carl Zeiss optics to achieve the shots.

Whilst I prefer to shoot on location, I also maintain a fully equipped studio in the South Midlands.

My work now tends to fall into five main categories:-

Commercial
Mainly shots for websites, brochures, catalogues, books and flyers.

Wildlife and Birds
Animals either wild or captive, birds and reptiles (especially dangerous snakes).

Travel
Picture postcard shots of hotels, beaches, locations, etc.

Portraits
Graduation ceremonies, family portraits and entertainer’s publicity photographs.

Glamour and Fashion
Design students and Hair & Beauty student’s portfolios. Models portfolios.
